Going on vacation for kids means fun and good food and fun times but sometimes for adults it can merely mean a lot of money. Of course, you want there to be memory making and family bonding and special moments but in the back of your mind, as an adult, it’s hard to be excited for something that you know is going to set you back a lot. However, you can have a great vacation without spending a ton of money. You don’t have to stay in resort hotels or high end places. There are many types of hotels that are very nice and don’t cost you an arm and a leg. Here are some ways to save some money on your next vacation.
Accommodation and Lodging
You can keep a look out for deals for resort hotels or oceanfront condos or something that is inherently expensive. You could also look into types of lodging that give you a better feel for the culture of the place. For example, if you’re going somewhere like England, you don’t want to stay in a resort hotel that reminds you of America, you want to stay in a bed and breakfast where you can really get the full effect of staying across the pond. These types of places usually work out to be much cheaper.
Food and Drinks
Make sure to stay in a place that includes breakfast. This will save you a lot of money. Then, if you want, you can simply go to a grocery store and buy your own sandwich makings and snacks so that you can either have them in the hotel or wherever you are staying or bring them with you when you go out. Either way it will stop you from eating out just because you need to eat something. Eating out should be saved til dinner time when you can sit down and really enjoy the local cuisine. Of course, there are some places that do not allow you to bring your own food or snacks or even drinks so check the rules before hand and make sure you aren’t in violation.
Inner City Travelling and Commuting
You could rent a car, many places have good deals on renting on a car. Or, you could use the city’s public transportation system to get around the city. This will allow to experience the city even better and will save you some money. However, if you have a big family, you’ll have to pay for every individually on the public transport system. Because of this you’ll wan to weigh out your options between rental costs and parking fees compared to day passes on trains and buses. That will help you determine which one is worth it.
The City and The Suburbs
Sometimes you can save a lot of money by staying just outside the city that you want to visit. The hotels and rental cars are usually much cheaper if you do not book the ones in the city or at the hotels. The ones in the outskirts are a lot more reasonable and will only take you minutes to get inside the city.
Room and Space
If you aren’t concerned about having enough room or space for yourself, you could have the whole family stay in one room. A hotel suite or something like that might be appropriate. This way, it will encourage you all to get out and get some space and fresh air and see the sights but when you are home, it’ll give you all a chance to bond and hang out together.
The point of a vacation to be able to get refreshed as well as bond with your family. If you are worried the entire time about how much everything is costing, then there is no point in going. It might be better to stay a little closer to home and take a road trip to a campsite or something like that then try to plan a stressful, extravagant vacation at a resort hotel. The kids will enjoy being away from home either way and the parents will be able to enjoy it knowing that their savings account is still intact.
